Relax and wellness

For tourists and guests visiting Mariánské Lázně to relax, the OREA Hotel Excelsior creates a very impressive environment and atmosphere that is full of peace and tranquillity. Promenading spa guests often use the abundantly situated benches and other seating areas just to watch the surrounding hustle and bustle and the impressive water show of the Singing Fountain. During the summer months, the Singing Fountain is a very popular attraction of the spa promenade. The harmonious play of water and sounds creates a beautiful water theatre that visitors often watch over and over again during their visit.

Modern life is often hectic and full of everyday problems that must be dealt with. It is therefore necessary to let the body and mind relax from time to time. The pleasant environment of our hotel will contribute to your positive well-being and amplify the beneficial impact of therapeutic and relaxation procedures on your organism. If the services we offer do not meet your expectations, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be pleased to prepare a customised offer suited to your needs.

We have the following therapeutic and wellness procedures for you at the OREA Hotel Excelsior:

  • Classic full-body and area-specific massages
  • Aromatherapy and reflexology massages
  • Underwater massages
  • Whirlpool baths
  • Gas injections
  • Gas wraps
  • Paraffin wax baths
  • Inhalation treatments and many others

Classic massage serves for relaxation. This procedure supplements therapy by relaxing stiff muscles, treating painful contractions or preparing the patient for therapeutic exercise. We distinguish between area-specific massage and full-body massage – the full-body massage requires the patient to consult with the doctor.

Underwater massage is a hydrotherapeutic procedure during which your body is massaged under water with a pressurised stream of water applied in a special tub. We distinguish between area-specific (back and buttocks) and full-body (including feet) underwater massage. This procedure may be applied only after consultation with the doctor.

Reflexology foot massage involves massage of pressure points on the sole of the foot. This technique may affect the functions of internal body organs and help balance the central nervous system.

Ayurvedic head massage is a relaxation massage of the head and neck. The Ayurvedic procedures remove physical and mental stress and tension from the organism. The purpose is to bring the body, soul and mind into harmony.

Hot stone massage involves the placement of hot rocks, which heat up and relax stiff muscles and help relax the whole organism. This massage is recommended for people who live under constant stress, suffer from depression, backache and joint pain, as well as sleep and concentration problems.

Hot towel massage is a light massage with a warm terry-cloth towel followed by a relaxation wrap. This massage has relaxing effects, and heats up and relaxes the muscles.

Chocolate massage is a massage with hot chocolate with relaxing and cosmetic aesthetic effects. It smoothes and rejuvenates the skin, relaxes stiff muscles and flushes out harmful substances. The body absorbs all the beneficial substances contained in chocolate.

The whirlpool bath is a hydrotherapeutic procedure with a sedative effect, relaxing muscle tone (cramps) and mental tension. It is applied to address locomotive system disorders, improve blood circulation in the extremities, help heal scars and address insomnia.

Whirlpool baths with aromatic oil have the same effects as the whirlpool bath, only with the addition of aromatic oil.

Whirlpool baths with the addition of aromatic salt are available in two variations. The first is a rose bath salt, which immediately helps combat nervousness and supports restful sleep. The aroma induces the sensation of a rose garden and, in combination with the hot steam rising from the bath, has tranquilising effects. The turquoise bath salt with a scent of chamomile immediately relaxes muscle tension and conveys a feeling of cleanliness.

The peat pulp bath has highly beneficial effects on rheumatic diseases and arthritis, brings relief from backaches, joint pain and muscle pain, improves eczema, acne and skin inflammation, moderates tension and stress and strengthens the function of sweat glands. The bath has a heating effect and significant detoxicating properties.

Peat body wrap (fango) is a form of thermotherapy. Moor mud is used in wrappings applied to individual or multiple body parts. The heat increases blood circulation and metabolism, thereby accelerating the absorption of inflammatory infiltrates, softening ligaments, and relaxing skeletal muscles and the smooth muscles of internal organs. It is applied to address locomotive system disorders, gynaecological diseases and respiratory system illnesses.

Gas wraps involve application of natural Mary’s gas, which is the specialty of Mariánské Lázně. It is a gas of volcanic origin, which contains 99.7% CO2, and is administered in the form of dry gas baths (gas wraps). The gas is absorbed even through clothing, causes vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and directly influences skin receptors. It improves blood circulation, accelerates the healing of wounds and has a positive impact on kidney function. Mary’s gas stimulates the production of the sexual hormones testosterone and estradiol, and therefore is successfully used to improve the sexual health and well-being of men and to moderate climacteric symptoms in women.

The Cleopatra wrap is a relaxation procedure with cosmetic effects, a light massage followed by a wrap in cream and honey.

Paraffin hand bath is a form of local thermotherapy. White paraffin with an addition of paraffin oil is used. The paraffin is applied to the afflicted area by immersing it in a special vessel. Heat is applied locally using paraffin slabs or through immersion of the upper extremities in a paraffin bath; the application of paraffin leads to local improvement of blood circulation, improvement of metabolism and flushing out of undesired metabolites. The procedure is suitable for arthritis, rheumatic diseases, and muscle spasms. It is used in particular in the case of degenerative diseases of the hand and carpal tunnel problems, and the procedure also has a cosmetic effect by smoothing the skin by hand.

Mechanical lymphatic drainage mechanically impacts the lymphedema of the extremities using the Lymfoven device. This special massage helps moderate lymphatic obstruction of the extremities, and it may be combined with a manual massage.

Magnet therapy is used to moderate backache, arthritis, osteoporosis and muscle tone (cramps). It alleviates pain, supports the cleaning of lymphatic passages, eliminates blood circulation problems, increases oxygen intake, strengthens the immune system and supports the production of bone marrow.

Oxygen therapy is a therapeutic method using oxygen, which is inhaled for a period of one hour. It is suitable as a permanent therapeutic measure against atherosclerosis and as a natural means of prevention against myocardial infarction and high blood pressure. Oxygen therapy contributes significantly to the regeneration of all cells within the human organism, especially the brain. It stabilises and accelerates thinking to a considerable degree, has a great and positive impact on an individual’s mental condition and on metabolism, and significantly delays the process of aging. The purpose of oxygen therapy is to maintain the permeability of the capillary blood vessels, thereby enabling better blood circulation and tissue nutrition in all tissues. The procedure is suitable for treatment of heart and circulatory system diseases, in diabetic complications, etc.

Gas injections are the specialty of Mariánské Lázně. Medicinal CO2 (formerly Mary’s Spring) is applied subcutaneously around the large joints and backbone. The main effects are moderation of pain, improvement of blood circulation in the area of the injection and acceleration of healing. In patients with varicose veins, it is necessary to be particularly careful around the knees due to the risk of thrombosis.

Inhalations have an anti-inflammatory effect and clear the respiratory airways. The use of the Forest Spring for inhalation improves the secretion of mucus and coughing. Use of the mineral water may be accompanied by medication administered in the case of serious dyspnea, natural salts in the case of catarrhs of the upper respiratory airways or herbal infusions.

Churchill and Mariánské Lázně: the combination of these two terms evokes rather mixed associations. However, it is not an accidental combination. In 1908, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill and his wife Clementine Hozier briefly visited our town during their honeymoon. They came to Mariánské Lázně to meet the Duke of Lancaster, who later became the British monarch.

Churchill's Pub & Restaurant was not always a restaurant in the past, but it definitely bears a relationship to England and the British Crown. In the early 20th century, the owner of one of the two milliner’s shops in the area, Mr. Pistl and his daughter, Miss Mizzi, were probably the reason why the spa town was regularly visited by the man who later ruled the British Empire as King Edward VII from 1897 to 1909. However, the local archives do not contain information on the extent to which the healing springs or the charms of Miss Mizzi influenced the health of the monarch. It is known, though, that this elegant gourmet revelled in Pilsner Urquell beer from Plzeň, which was also served on occasions as special as a meeting with Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1905 in the Krakonoš Hotel in Mariánské Lázně.

Churchill's Pub & Restaurant features an English-club environment, with a design dominated by plaid patterns and red and green colours. The central bar overlooks the entire restaurant and offers various seating options, including a pleasant separated area, elevated platforms, and seats with a view where you can watch the hustle and bustle in the spa streets and forget about the time passing by.

It is our endeavour to offer you more than just traditional hospitality; we strive to create an atmosphere and experience that will make you want to come back again and again.

1900 Restaurant
Hours of operation: Daily
Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Supper: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Capacity: 110 seats

For undisturbed comfort and convenience, guests at the OREA Hotel Excelsior may take full board in the 1900 Restaurant. The welcoming environment of the restaurant is characterised by period interiors and stucco decorations. Our main focus is on the quality of food and beverages, friendly personnel and professional service. Breakfast and supper are served buffet style. The 1900 Restaurant, with its nostalgic atmosphere and variety of dishes from both international and Czech cuisine, will satisfy even the most discriminating guests.

Leisure

One of the most popular activities among visitors to Mariánské Lázně is drinking from the numerous mineral springs named after notable people associated with the city. There are about 40 springs on the main colonnade and in the nearby area.

The beauty of the Mariánské Lázně hardly needs advertising: the surrounding wooded and diverse landscape will captivate every visitor. And it will definitely appeal to discriminating tourists seeking an active vacation or a weekend full of events and varied experiences. Having a massage, enjoying some of the relaxation baths or relaxing in the sauna of our spa and wellness centre after an arduous hike or bike trip is a pleasant experience that will appeal to everyone.

We are happy to arrange interesting activity programmes for our hotel guests upon request. We can provide recommendations for cultural events and sports and organise sightseeing trips in the area for both individuals and groups. We can also arrange guided tours of towns and cities such as:

  • The world-famous spa city of Karlovy Vary
  • The historical city of Cheb
  • Kladská Moors Natural Reserve
  • Františkovy Lázně
  • Kynžvart Castle
  • Teplá and Kladruby monasteries
  • Stříbro
  • Kozel Castle
  • And many other tourist attractions

For lovers of culture, the city hosts a number of regular music festivals including the Chopin Festival and the Mime Festival, as well as concerts, balls and fashion shows. Guests can visit the Municipal Museum, the library and the J. W. Goethe Museum along with many architectural sights (such as the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Russian Eastern Orthodox Church of St. Vladimir, the Anglican Church, etc.).

There are numerous sporting opportunities around the town. The area boasts countless walking and hiking paths. During the winter time, they are transformed into cross-country-skiing trails that are continually groomed, providing skiers with ideal skiing conditions. Another major tourist attraction is golf. There are eleven golf courses in the vicinity of Mariánské Lázně. Game hunting is also becoming popular. Just beyond the town, there are game reserves owned by private entities or individuals where hunting trips may be arranged. Thanks to the area’s large number of ponds, fishing has also become increasingly popular recently.

Tips for trips

There are many historical and architectural places of interest close to Mariánské Lázně (such as Teplá Monastery, which has a large park with water features, Bečov Castle, Loket Castle, the Špalíček complex of 11 buildings in the city of Cheb and the unique Soos Natural Reserve near Františkovy Lázně, a natural moorland with mud volcanoes). Mariánské Lázně is surrounded by the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area, which includes a number of natural attractions (such as Kladská – Kladská Moors).

Family Brewery in Chodová Planá
The Chodová Planá brewery is a well-known tourist destination. The brewery’s cellar restaurant offers a very pleasant environment. The brewery also includes a Brewery Museum, wellness centre with a beer spa and historical malt house. Adjacent to the brewery building, there is a formal garden with a pleasant seating area that can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. A traditional beer festival is held here in connection with the European beer-barrel rolling championships.

Mitte Europa Festival
This is a multi-genre cultural festival that takes place in the Czech-German border region. It is also known as the Festival of Three States: Saxony, Bavaria and Bohemia and is held in western Bohemia (Cheb), north-western Bavaria and southern and western Saxony. The festival takes place from June to August.

Folk Art of Western Bohemia
Western Bohemia has a unique folk culture that is a combination of two nationalities – Czech and German. This exhibition depicts differences between the specific regions – the Karlovy Vary area, Cheb area, Chodsko area, Klatovy area and Plzeň area. Both Germans and Czechs have traditionally lived in western Bohemia, but each group maintained its own lifestyle. The exhibition displays folk costumes, interiors and items showing the richness of the arts and customs of each culture. The exhibition is accompanied by an abundant programme.

Riding Hall in Světce – the Pearl of Tachov
The riding hall in Světce is the second oldest riding hall in Central Europe. It combines elements of industrial and aristocratic architecture and features a very unusual roof with a “lantern” – a prismatic skylight. Completed in 1861, it was used for various purposes; the riding hall cellars housed a forge, storage areas, coal pit, blacksmith’s residence, and manure storage and handling area. The ground floor included galleries and living quarters including bathrooms. The Riding Hall could house 24 horses. The most beautiful room is the Duke’s Quarters, which still offers one of the most beautiful views of the riding hall.

Soos National Nature Reserve
This is a unique natural reserve located to the north of Františkovy Lázně in the vicinity of Skalná. It is managed by the Františkovy Lázně Museum. Soos was declared a national nature reserve in 1964 and it covers about 221 ha. The word “Soos” means “bog” in the German dialect of Egerland, i.e. Cheb.
