Museum of Art
Olomouc
The Olomouc Museum of Art is one of the most important cultural centres in the Czech Republic. It offers a fascinating insight into the development of the visual arts from the Middle Ages to the present day and manages an extensive collection of nearly 200,000 exhibits - from paintings and sculptures to prints, architectural designs and photographs. In the very heart of Olomouc we find the Museum of Modern Art, where modern and contemporary works are intertwined with the atmosphere of the permanent exhibition "Century of Relativity". In the attic of the building, a bonus awaits visitors in the form of a view of the historic city centre. Not far from here is the Archdiocesan Museum Olomouc, housed in the grounds of the former Přemyslid Castle. It is the first museum of spiritual culture in the Czech Republic to map religious art from the 12th to the 18th century. The third component is the Archdiocesan Museum in Kroměříž, which preserves the unique collections of the Archbishopric of Olomouc, including a music archive and a historical library. The museum is open daily except Mondays and offers free admission every Sunday. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum organises a number of exhibitions, concerts and accompanying programmes that will appeal to lovers of history and contemporary art. |
