Cycling around the Jedovnice ponds

6.9 km
Náročnost

The Jedovnice ponds offer one of the most pleasant short cycle trips in the Moravian Karst. You can look forward to calm waters, surrounding woodland and almost no uphill sections. Both leisure cyclists and families with children will love this circuit. It takes about 25 minutes to get there by car from the OREA Resort Panorama. Before you set off on your bike, don’t forget to pack a snack at breakfast. At OREA, you can put together your own snack to suit your taste and pack it into the bags provided.

Where does the route around the ponds go?

You can start at any of the car parks by Olšovec Pond, for example on Barachov or Olšovecká Street.

In summer, Olšovec Pond offers leisure facilities, a campsite, refreshments and places where you can spend a while by the water before setting off or after returning from your trip. During the season, larger events are also held by the pond, such as dragon boat races or motorboat races.

From Olšovec, the route continues to the smaller Jedovnice ponds. You’ll gradually reach Budkovan, Vrbový and Dubový ponds, where the atmosphere is calmer and more natural.

Part of the route links up with the Jedovnické Ponds – Rudické Propadání Nature Trail, which showcases the local ponds and the surrounding countryside.

Olšovec Pond

Olšovec is the largest pond in Jedovnice and the natural centre of local leisure activities. Throughout the summer, its shores are the setting for a mix of peaceful moments by the water and larger events, such as dragon boat races. Thanks to its facilities right by the water, it is the ideal place for both the start and finish of the circuit.

Budkovan, Vrbový and Dubový Ponds

Originally, there was a single pond called Budkovan, which was later modified and divided into three separate bodies of water: Budkovan, Vrbový and Dubový ponds. Today, they serve primarily as fish-farming ponds and, at the same time, as a natural refuge for waterfowl and other wildlife.
