Jižanský dvorek
Jižanský dvorek in Brno - Horní Heršpice is a small city zoo, an ideal trip for animal lovers. You will find the complex on the right bank of the Svratka River, in the vicinity of Kšírova Street and Dufkov Embankment. A farm without classic production has been built on the place where the land used to be unmaintained. The animals graze the grass naturally and visitors can observe them from the paths and viewing points around the enclosures.
Children will especially enjoy the variety of animals here. Donkeys, fallow deer, goats, sheep, pigs, a pony, Highland cattle, birds and Bennett's kangaroos all live at South Yard. It is the combination of common farm animals with fallow deer and kangaroos that makes a visit a small experience even for children who are already familiar with common farm animals.
However, this is not a contact zoo. The inside of the farm is not normally entered and the animals are not petted or fed over the fence. They have their own food and inappropriate treats could harm them.
The South Yard is well connected to other places in the area. Nearby you can find the Kšírovka area and the outdoor amusement park Hopsálkov or Biotop Brno-jih.
From the OREA hotels in Brno you can reach Jižanský dvůrek by car and public transport. Take the tram to the final stop Komárov, from there you can walk for about ten minutes. If you arrive by car, you can park in front of the Biotop Brno-jih area or in the vicinity of Dufkov embankment next to Jižanský dvorek.
