Jižanský dvorek

Jižanský dvorek

Brno

A small city zoo has been created on a previously neglected plot of land. You can visit Jižanský dvorek in Brno – Horní Heršpice. The site is situated on the right bank of the Svratka, near Kšírova Street and Dufkova Embankment. The farm does not engage in conventional livestock production. The animals graze naturally on the grass here, and visitors can observe them from the paths and viewing points around the enclosures.

What animals will you encounter here?

Children will particularly enjoy the variety of animals here. Jižanský dvorek is home to donkeys, fallow deer, goats, sheep, pigs, a pony, Highland cattle, birds and even Bennett’s wallabies. The combination of common farm animals with fallow deer and kangaroos makes a visit an experience even for children who are already familiar with ordinary farm animals.

What should you bear in mind?

This is not a petting zoo. Visitors are not normally allowed into the inner part of the farm, and the animals must not be stroked or fed through the fence. They have their own feed, and unsuitable treats could harm them.

How do you get there?

From the OREA hotels in Brno, you can reach Jižanský dvorek by car or public transport. Take the tram to the Komárov terminus; from there, it’s about a ten-minute walk. If you’re travelling by car, you can park in front of the Biotop Brno-jih complex or in the area around Dufkovo nábřeží next to Jižanský dvorek.

What else can you visit in the area?

Jižanský dvorek can easily be combined with other places in the area. Nearby, you’ll find the Kšírovka complex, the Hopsálkov outdoor amusement park and Biotop Brno-jih.
