ZOO Brno
The Brno Zoo on the slopes of Mnisa Mountain is one of the most distinctive zoological gardens in the Czech Republic. On an area of over 65 hectares, it is home to more than 2,200 animals in about 400 species from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. The modern exhibitions are sensitively set in hilly, wooded terrain and use rocks, water bodies and themed buildings.
A major attraction is the Boreas complex with its trio of polar bears in one of the largest enclosures of its kind in Europe. The new brown jellyfish exhibit offers the opportunity to observe the complex social behaviour of these Ethiopian primates. Africa is brought closer by villages with giraffes, flamingos and lemurs, while the nocturnal world is represented by the Night Limpopo exhibit.
For lovers of the exotic, there is an Exotarium focused mainly on birds and the Tropical Kingdom with the fauna of South America, including the great anacondas and the rare white-tailed monkeys. Zoo Brno also actively participates in international rescue programmes, operates a wildlife rescue station and offers a rich educational programme for schools and the public. Visitors can take advantage of guided feedings, special events during the year and online broadcasts from selected exhibitions.
The grounds are partially wheelchair accessible, suitable for strollers; dogs are not allowed in the zoo and there are holding pens at the entrance.
