New castle near Adamov

Moravian Karst
Nový hrad u Adamova is a romantic ruin hidden in the woods between Adamov and Blansko. It was built in 1493 by the Černohorský brothers from Boskovice as a replacement for the destroyed Old Castle. Its main task was to guard the important trade route from Brno through the Blansko valley. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was captured by Swedish troops - according to legend, due to the inattention of the garrison, who threw dice rather than guarding the drawbridge. In the 19th century, the Liechtenstein family rebuilt the castle as a hunting lodge and today it is looked after by volunteers from the Czech Union of Nature Conservationists. Visitors are attracted by the well-preserved towers, courtyards and a varied programme of historical and cultural events. Admission is voluntary and the castle is open from spring to autumn.
