Sloupsko-šošůšov Caves

Moravian Karst

The Sloupsko-šošůvské Caves in the northern part of the Moravian Karst represent one of the largest accessible cave systems in the Czech Republic. This two-storey system consists of a dry upper floor and a lower floor with underground water flows.Visitors can choose between two sightseeing circuits: a short one (890 m) and a long one (1760 m), which lead through extensive domes, passages and abysses with rich stalactite decoration. Among the most important parts are the Ellis Cave, known for its excellent acoustics, and the Nagel Abyss, approximately 90 metres deep. The tour also includes the Kůlna Cave, an important archaeological site with the remains of Neanderthal man. For the adventurous visitor, there is an adventure trail "In the footsteps of Nagel", which leads to the lower floors of the caves. This route includes descending and ascending a 12-metre long ladder, crossing an approximately 10-metre long ferrata, crawling and moving on all fours in narrow spaces.
