Pancíř
Pancíř belongs to the trips where you can enjoy the beautiful views of Šumava without demanding mountain hikes. The peak rises above Železná Ruda at an altitude of 1,214 metres and the Pancíř Mountain Chalet with a lookout tower stands on it. From here, you can enjoy a wide view of Šumava, Bavaria, Velký Javor and, in good visibility, the Alps. The first simple wooden lookout tower stood here in 1880. Not far from the mountain hut is the so-called Open Door, which is a popular place for photography.
There are several ways to get to Pancíř. A comfortable option is the historic single-seat cable car from Špičák, which has an intermediate station at Hofmanky and ends directly at Pancíř. The first section of the cable car from Špičák to Hofmanky takes about 12 minutes, the second section from Hofmanky to Pancíř takes about 10 minutes.
If you decide not to use the cable car, there is an asphalt road to the top with no cars, which can be used on foot or by bike. It is also suitable for a stroller.
Pancír is also interesting because the main European watershed passes through it. According to the Šumava signpost, three rivers rise here: the Úhlava and Křemelná flow into the North Sea, while the Řezná flows into the Black Sea.
