Poledník lookout tower

Poledník lookout tower

Sumava

The Poledník lookout tower rises on one of the highest peaks of Šumava (1,315 m above sea level) and offers breathtaking views of the Czech and Bavarian forests - in good weather up to the Alps. Originally a secret military tower, it was rebuilt after 1989 and now serves as a lookout with an exhibition on the history of the area. 227 steps lead up to the observation deck at a height of 37 metres. The best way to reach the lookout tower is by car to the village of Prášily (about 30 minutes), from where a red hiking trail leads across Prášily Lake. The route is about 8.5 km long and is moderately difficult. The meridian is accessible from May to October and the number of visitors is regulated.
