Merry Hill Open-air Museum

Highlands

The Veselý Kopec open-air museum is a picturesque "village" within the Museum of Nature in Vysočina, situated on the border of the Iron Mountains and the Žďár Hills. Since the 1970s, selected buildings from the Bohemian Highlands have been gradually moved here to preserve the lively appearance of the countryside, which has often disappeared from the landscape. In the timbered houses you will find examples of housing and farming of small farmers dating from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. In addition to the cottages and farmhouses, there are also unique water-powered technical monuments that beautifully show how cleverly people were able to help themselves.
The interiors are furnished in such a way that you feel as if the farmer has just stepped away for a moment and you have been transported back a few generations.
